Best uses

Great for use as a specimen palm in the middle of a bed or large lawn. Can also be easily incorporated into subtropical plantings.

Physical characteristics

A large palm with big fan-shaped leaves which can grow to around 10m in height with a spread at the crown of around 5m.

Flowers and foliage

The leaves of this palm are large fan-shaped and bright green in colour. Large panicles of yellow flowers can be produced in summer.

Preferred site

Best grown in full sun with well-drained soil.

Maintenance tips

Remove old fronds when they get tatty and die back. Mulch annually with an organic mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds. Each spring, apply an organic-based fertiliser such as blood and bone at a handful per square metre as new growth begins.

Generally trouble free.
