Evening stargazing: Our place in the stars

Join us for a family-friendly evening of relaxed solar gazing, an astronomical talk on Our Place in the Stars, fun kids activities and as the sun goes down some guided star gazing. This family-friendly evening is hosted by the Auckland Botanic Gardens in partnership with the Auckland Astronomical Society (AAS) and Stardome Observatory & Planetarium.
Bring a picnic to enjoy, and warm clothes for the cooler evening as the sun goes down.
There are a limited number of tickets for this event - if you are unable to attend after you have booked your tickets, please go back into Eventbrite and cancel your tickets so others can attend.
Event details:
- 8pm onwards at the Auckland Botanic Gardens visitor centre - enjoy solar gazing using telescopes with members of the AAS, pick up a Mission Sheet and complete your Space Mission, colour in our colouring wall, visit the MOTAT space module or enjoy apps, games and videos in the visitor centre.
- 8.30pm - the Auckland Astronomical Society will present a fascinating and interactive talk on Our Place in the Stars, followed by an introduction to the fabulous telescopes you'll be using for star gazing.
- 9.15pm onwards - enjoy using professional telescopes for star gazing at the night sky, assisted by members of the Auckland Astronomical Society.
Head home when you are ready, the event will wrap up by 10.15pm.
(The event will go ahead rain or shine - bring a brolly if it looks like it's going to rain.)
