Botanic Gardens Conservation International

Auckland Botanic Gardens is a member of Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI). There are over 600 members across 100 countries.

In 2019, we received the BGCI Botanic Garden Accreditation. This accreditation scheme assesses a botanic garden on their policies, infrastructure, and practices (e.g. well documented collections), and conservation and sustainability activities (e.g. public engagement, ex situ conservation, training).

In 2025, we received the BGCI Conservation Practitioner Accreditation. This scheme recognises conservation-oriented botanic gardens and botanic gardens that focus on conservation actions that support local, national or global conservation goals.

Our plant collections are regularly updated and uploaded to BGCI’s Plant Search allowing our plant collections to be accessible to other Botanic Gardens.
