Tree Benefits Workshop

Learn about trees and how to measure their size and importance

Tree Benefits Workshop

Book your place on this two hour tree workshop, a fun and interactive educational activity suitable for families and people of all ages.

The workshop will let you discover more about the wide range of environmental services and benefits that trees provide in our daily lives. It is hosted by Auckland Council Urban Forest staff and held at the Botanic Gardens.

Attendees will learn about the development of the tree benefit cards currently on display at the gardens over Arbor Month, 5th June-3rd July.

Tree Card

The session will include detail on how to use several methods to measure a large tree accurately and then use the information to calculate some of the benefits a tree can provide using the software system i-Tree.

i-Tree is a free piece of software adapted for use in NZ. The software can enable the user to record and calculate the benefits of trees in their local street, park neighbourhood.

Collecting tree details and using i-Tree can be a fun and interesting project for the whole family, a community group, and school or university students interested in the ecosystem services that trees can provide.

Weather permitting, the event will be held outdoors and trees will be chosen within walking distance of the visitors centre. Please be prepared with suitable clothing for outdoors and wear sturdy shoes.
