Calling all artists

Submissions open for Sculpture in the Gardens 2023/24

Our call for artists for the Sculpture in the Gardens 2023/24 is open.

We are looking for interested artists to submit their sculpture ideas before 14 February 2023.

The exhibition is open to all artists resident in Aotearoa/New Zealand and all types, shapes, sizes, and forms of sculpture will be considered. Fifteen works will be chosen for display.

Works that respond innovatively to the Botanic Gardens’ setting and tell stories about the Gardens are encouraged. Examples could include messages about the environment, gardening, and plants, how visitors use the Gardens, or how it relates to a specific garden setting.

About the exhibition

The hugely popular Sculpture in the Gardens exhibition has run every second summer at the Auckland Botanic Gardens since 2007. The 15 sculptures of the upcoming exhibition will be spread out along a 2km trail taking in a variety of gardens and landscapes, from expansive lawns to lakes, stands of trees to mass plantings of flowers.

Many New Zealand artists, from our most well-known to our new and emerging, have enjoyed exhibiting. Drawcards for artists include the exhibition’s long running time, numerous visitors, and supportive exhibition team.
